Oestrogen Excess
Oestrogen is an amazingly proliferative hormone essential for many functions in the body. It is even responsible for that ‘euphoric’ feeling, as research suggests it promotes serotonin production and inhibits serotonin reuptake, reducing depressive symptoms.
But sometimes, inadequate detoxification of oestrogen can result in a build up, leading to undesirable symptoms like heavy periods, breast tenderness, fatigue and weight gain particularly around the mid section. Excess oestrogen could also be contributing to the onset of different conditions like
• PCOS
• Endometriosis
• Infertility
• Fibroids
Levels of oestrogen naturally fluctuate in the body across the lifespan, but many factors can lead to elevated levels, including exposure to environmental toxins, reduced clearance of oestrogen via impaired liver detoxification pathways and even imbalances with our gut microbiome.
Our diet and lifestyle can play a major role in the proper production and clearance of oestrogen. Using a comprehensive health assessment with or without functional pathology, we can work together to reduce undesirable symptoms and address these conditions.
